Week 1: Business Organization and Labor Movements
Week 1 of Unit 4 discusses the complexities of business organizations. This week outlines four different ways a business can be organized and discusses labor trends within the national economy. These lessons serve as a stepping stone into the world of outsourcing. During this week students will begin to recognize the importance of business organization, the American labor force, and the tendency for businesses to look for ways to produce goods and services in the most efficient way possible. Students will realize such practices have lasting implications for individuals working in the private sector.
Week 2: International Trade, Free Trade, and Protectionism
Week 2 of Unit 4 marks the week that students begin to explore how international trade affects our national economy. The focus is trading regulation with emphasis on the free market. Students will discuss the benefits and failures of the free market and its lasting implications. At weeks end, students will understand concepts of outsourcing, comparative and absolute advantage, and protectionism. Students will display knowledge through written exercises, mathematical computations, collaboration and peer discussions, and artistic representation.
Week 3: Global Implications
Week 3 of Unit 4 wraps up our unit and focuses on developing nations. This unit intents to broaden student understanding of the world and pushes them to consider the implications of the United States' economic policies on the rest of the world. Students will develop empathy as they learn about other nations, and critically think about their future as economically literate members of society.
Week 4: Finals
Students will be assessed on Unit 4 and complete a comprehensive final to demonstrate overall knowledge on the subject of economics.
